RESOURCE RECOVERY

The common practice of waste disposal has been dumping them in open area without treatment. This poses threat to both health and environment by contaminating land, water and air. The potential of waste to generate resource also goes untapped. Moreover, the availability of land becoming scarcer year by year. Therefore, it is urgently required to stop unscientific dumping of waste and process it to recover the useful material for use and only rejects are disposed scientifically in an environment friendly manner. The resource recovery component of CJP promotes appropriate segregation, composting and recycling options to promote recovery of useful material from waste.

1. Composting Options

a. Anaerobic composting
b. Aerobic composting

  • Aerobic Microbial Composting

  • Composting using Effective Microbes (EM) solution

  • Composting using cow dung slurry

  • Vermi Composting

2. Recycling Options

  • Paper Recycling

  • Plastic Recycling

VERMI COMPOSTING PLANT AT CHUTTU, KANKE
The 1 st vermi composting plant with the capacity of 80 ton bi monthly production has been established at Chuttu Kanke. For this 16 sheds of 400 sq. feet each is being constructed to carry on the vermi composting process.

This plant will require 3 ton of municipal solid waste on daily basis to operate at its full capacity. The RMC has agreed to transport waste to the processing site.
The 1 st lot of manure of 2 ton 650 kg has been produced. The cost of manure will range between Rs.1.50 to Rs.4.50 per kg.

To raise the greenery at the site plantation is being undertaken. 300 saplings have already been planted in and around the site.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION USING POLYBAGS
With co-ordination of Thyagraj University CJP has identified the technology of using waste polythene in road construction.

Process of Road construction: The waste polythene is first shredded in shredding machine. The concrete is heated. When it reaches the temperature of 130 140 C, the shredded plastic is mixed with it and it is further heated till it reaches the temperature of 150 160 C. Then the bitumen is also heated to the temperature of 150 160 C and mixed with the heated concrete. The mixture is further heated till it reaches the temperature of 150-160. Thus the polymer bitumen mixture is ready for road construction.

The polymer bitumen mixture increases the longevity of road by protecting it from potholes during rainy season
