Cross CBR Project

In the quarter of Oct-Dec’11, Cross CBR project supported by Sight Savers International, Kolkata at Chouparan block (Hazaribag) has moved towards more acceptability within panchayat representatives and earned requisite capacity building for the project team. There were 3 panchayat level meetings which resulted as participation of 280 people from 19 villages including PRI representatives, health/aanganwadi workers, SHG members, PWDs with their parents to discuss the project, support from PRIs and government facilities. Overall 13 days training for project staff at SANCHAR, Kolkata and NAB, Mumbai has enriched their understanding.

Through training to 60 SHG women/ aanganwadi workers upon identification of low vision & safety measures, the project aims to expand its reach. In another assessment camp for cataract, 65 persons have been identified and 25 surgeries took place. On the whole, 73 cataract patients could avail surgical treatment within the quarter. Similarly certification to 5, Braille education to 6, pre-Braille education to 3, O & M to 19, ADL to 52, physiotherapy to 61, FRW to 25 and pre-education to 56 PWDs have been ensured. Despite constant liaison with government departments, dumped aids & appliances at Chouparan could not be distributed as the concerned officer is still to be posted. Though PWDs are now more organized with increased recognition socially.
