Rally on HIV/AIDS>>

School students took out a rally in Visungarh block on December 1, 2007 canvassing issue of HIV/AIDS plus sex and reproductive health. Initiating from Akhara chowk the rally ended up in NBJK block office premises. Rally was an effort initiated under “Prayas” project executed jointly by Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra and CINI (Kolkata). Addressing the rally Mr. Arun Kumar Singh, Block Medical Officer quoted that there is immediate need to generate awareness amidst the masses regarding HIV/AIDS, sex education and reproductive health. Sri Mahesh Prasad, Headmaster, Visungarh High School encouraged the students by saying that their effort will spread message to 300 households. Sudhir Singh, Project coordinator, PRAYAS project along with other project staff participated in the rally.
 

Film Show>>

Film show was organized at premises Government high school and Inter college in Visungarh block under the baton of “Prayas” project executed by Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra with able support of CINI (Kolkata). “Akrant” film portrayed in Inter college premises depicts story of a boy who gets affected by AIDS after moving to a metropolitan city. Film generated the reasons, causes and societal ramifications of the lethal cause. Film “Uday” screened in high school premises viewed the late positive response from the society towards orphans whose parents died owing to AIDS. Animated fiction “Meri Iccha” depicted the mental state of a HIV affected woman who lost her husband due to same reasons. Screening of the films evoked positive response from the students.

 
NBJK captures viewership at Udyog Mela 2007>>

Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra participated in a week-long Udyog Mela-Enterprise Fair organized by Ministry of Industry, Govt. of Jharkhand from 15thNovember’06 to 22ndNovember‘06 at Military Ground, Morabadi, Ranchi by displaying a colorful stall on its various project/activities. The event commemorated 7th anniversary of the State of Jharkhand and birth anniversary of the legendary Birsa Munda. The mela was organized with the objective to facilitate economic and Industrial Development in Jharkhand.

NBJK has had a glorious 35 years of experience in the state of Bihar & Jharkhand and has been immensely working on various social initiatives. With its strong base in entpreneurship development and facilitating individual enterprise, NBJK participated in the Udyog mela by putting up their stall with jointly with Department of Urban Development of the State and Ranchi Municipal Corporation. The stall mostly depicted various activities and projects implemented by NBJK at rural and urban levels. Not only emphasizing awareness in various social issues but various IEC materials like posters, pamphlets, brochures etc. were distributed to disseminate the message of solid waste management, hygiene and sanitation issues, promotion of birth & death registration, elimination of female feticide etc.

It also offered vermi-compost for sale at nominal rate of Rs.6 per Kg. The net sales proceeds were 148 kgs amounting to Rs.888. Through its display at the Udyog Mela, thousands of visitors were captured who appreciated the intervention of the Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra which has been based on local specific needs and solutions. Through the platform of Udyog Mela, people were made aware on the future projects of Ranchi Municipal Corporation including Establishment of city centre, Market complex and Indoor Stadium in Ranchi. In addition to the above under its Employability Training Program, pamphlets were distributed in order to disseminate information about its training centre where training is being imparted on various trades including Personality development, Computer, Accounting, Hotel management etc.

The Mela also witnessed a grand visit by Shri Harinarayan Rai, Hon'ble Minister, Department of Urban Development, Shri Vinay Kr. Choubey, Administrator, RMC, Mukesh Kr. Verma, Asst. Administrator, RMC, Rekha Rani Singh, Health Officer, RMC on 20th Novemeber’07. The eight day’s grand mela concluded equally splendidly on 22nd November’07. Overall the mela received a good response.

 

TRAININGS & WORKSHOPS
Two days state level workshop on Civil registration services>>

In order to aid the effectiveness and enlarge the coverage of Birth Registration of civil registration services in Jharkhand State through the Statistics and Evaluation Directorate, UNICEF - Jharkhand in collaboration with Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra, Ranchi organized a "Two Days State Level Workshop on Civil registration Services to Master Trainers" at Jai Prakash Hall, NBJK, Ranchi on 6th–7th Nov. ’07, 19th-20th Nov.’07, 22nd- 23rd Nov.’07 and 27th-28th Nov.’07 respectively. The workshop had the major objective to build the capacity of the District Statistical Officer, Assistant Statistical Officer & Junior Statistical Supervisor who will further act as a master trainer to disseminate and advocate the information to their subordinates and colleagues. It was attended by participants from various blocks of Gumla, Deoghar, Giridih, Hazaribag, Pakur, Ramgarh who will be acting as master trainers from all districts of Jharkhand. The training programme was planned with a focus on technical sessions and Group work.

Sri Vimlesh Kr. Pandey, Deputy Director and Sri Pramod Kr. Sinha, Asst. Director, Sri Akhilanand Tiwari, Asst. Statistical Officer, Sri Shailendra Kr. Mitra, JSO, Sri Virendra Kumar, JSO, Sri Jitendra Kumar Dubey, JSO, Sri Shashi Bhusan Chaudhary, JSO, Sri Rajdeo Prasad Singh, ASO, Sri Sanjay Kr. Sinha, JSO conducted the technical sessions. Groups were divided into four groups where common points were discussed by all groups. Participants had to make plan for 50% achievement of registration and identification of backlogs, Training for capacity building of staffs, solution for achieving 100% registration till 2010, Assistance of NGO and solution to achieve the target of registration and its statistical part from all town and rural registration units in each month.
 

Meeting on rehabilitation of differently abled>>

A preview meeting of NBJK executed community based rehabilitation for the differently abled was organized under the auspicious guidance of Sri. Satish Girija, Secretary, NBJK at NBJK office premises on November 2, 2007. Block coordinators of the related program and panchayat coordinators participated in the meeting. Concerns were raised in the irregularities occurring in the process of certificate distribution to the beneficiaries and problems coming in the way of opening bank accounts of differently abled. Problems regarding unfair identification of the beneficiaries in the camps organized by district rehabilitation center for the differently abled were also spotted. A unanimous decision was taken to acquaint the D.C. with the prevailing situation. Discussions were carried on “Spandan” a special school for mentally retarded persons. It was decided to raise monthly contributions of Rs. 200 to provide educational facilities to the beneficiaries.
 

Advocacy and community awareness for elderly- Guidelines>

A book entitled “Advocacy and community awareness for elderly- Guidelines” was unveiled in rights and demands of the elderly week jointly observed by NBJK, Hazaribag and Helpage India (PACS) New Delhi at Zila School ground premises on 5th October, 2007. Mr. Shiv Dayal Singh, ex principal, Markham College, Hazaribag judiciously guided the event. Several problems encountered by the elderly population at self, familial and societal level were discussed in this occasion. Different government schemes and funds channelized to benefit the old people were highlighted in the event. 125 old men and women from different villages of Sadar and Katkamsandi blocks participated in the event.

I am Arti Kumari. I dreamt of going to school and become school teacher in near future. I got enrolled in school but had to drop out from school after my father passed away. I was to drop out of school and join my mothers hand in earning bread and butter for my family. We came to know about NBJKs sponsorship program and approached for help. Do you know?

Child labor prevention act of 1986 has been amended in 10th October, 2006 prohibits children engaged as domestic laborers, working in dhabas, hotels and restaurants, industries, circus and other sources of entertainment. As per child labor act, 1986 employing a child for any hazardous or non hazardous activity is a punishable under law. Whoever violates the law he or she will be sentenced for a term of 3 months to one year and may be fined from Rupees 10 thousand to 20 thousand. If one violates the second time person can be pushed for six months to 2 years. According to Supreme court’s directions employer have to do a down payment of Rs.20, 000 to rehabilitate the victimized child.
