NBJK marked
58th Republic Day Celebrations with Mr.
Girija Satish, Executive Director, NBK cum General
Secretary, Lok Samiti hosting the Tri color at office
premises. On this occasion he viewed that country is
moving ahead in the road to development. He also orated
that the organization in partnership with government and
other agencies is committed to glow the light of
development amidst poor and deprived. Mr. Satish Girija,
Secretary, NBJK, Mr. Prabhunath Sharma etc also expressed
their views on this occasion.

In a similar
fashion Republic Day was Celebrated with great pomp
and show at Bahera ashram in Chouparan. Here also Mr.
Girija Satish, Executive Director, NBJK cum General
Secretary, Lok Samiti hoisted the national flag at office
premises in Bahera of Chouparan. Children sang the
national anthem and staged cultural events depicting
country's pride and glory.

Republic
Day was also Celebrated in NBJK- Koderma office.
Here flag was hoisted at office campus as well as
Baghi Tanr where the DC – Koderma Sri. Kanhaiya Pandey
hosted the flag. Organization took out procession
cornering issues of female foeticide and birth
registration. Civil surgeon awarded special prize to
the organization for this activity. 58th
Republic Day was also celebrated in NBJK Ranchi, Patna
and Bodh Gaya offices. |

Clean Jharkhand Project on
58th Republic Day >> |
|
To mark
the 58th Republic Day 2007 Urban
Development Department, Ranchi Municipal
Corporation and Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra jointly
showcased their achievements as colorful Jhanki and
marched across the Morabadi ground, Ranchi on 26th
January’07. His Excellency The Governor-Jharkhand
State Janab Syed Sibte Razi Saheb ensured his presence
as “Guard of the Honour” during the Republic Day
Function. The Jhanki mainly outlaid the theme
“Public-Private Partnership” through its Clean
Jharkhand Project “A Community Based Solid Waste
Management Programme”. It displayed the various
aspects towards proper way of
Solid Waste |

Management
such as doorstep collection of waste, transportation,
waste disposal, resource recovery and awareness
generation to community & school children. Apart from
this the projected model plan of the city centre in
Ranchi including the establishment of market complex
and Indoor stadium was also demonstrated in the Jhanki. |

Nav Bharat
Jagriti Kendra with Financial assistance from Helpage,
India organized meet cum picnic of 'Briddha Choupal'
representatives on the eve of New Year at premises of
forest department nursery near Kanhari Hill, Hazaribag.
Mr. Devdayal Kuswaha, Ex. MLA cum agricultural minister
was present as chief guest in this occasion. In this
occasion the 'Briddha Choupal' representatives exchanged
their views and experiences. Chief Guest echoed on the
need and importance of this platform in today's context.
Issues like increment in old age pension, availability of
services under Indira Awas Yojna, availability of
medicines in Primary Health Centers, separate cell for the
aged, consent and participation of aged in developmental
process etc. were discussed in detail. 100 representatives
participated in this event. |

TRAININGS & WORKSHOPS |

Accounts Training>> |
|
Women representatives of Self Help Groups formed under
the PACS program were capacitated on how to maintain
books of accounts in a two day training schedule on
the aforesaid issue. Every minute detail on how to
maintain group accounts were delivered to the
participants. |

Micro credit Training and
Mental Health Camp>> |
|
Two days micro credit training schedule was
organized at NBJK office premises. Concept of Self
Help Groups and their role in structured
developmental process and different successful
models of micro credit were discussed in detail. A
commitment was taken to benefit the downtrodden
women of the society. |

In a similar fashion mental health camp under the
auspicious guidance of doctors from RINPAS, Kanke,
Ranchi including Dr. (Col) S.Chowdhury, Dr. Balram,
Dr. P.K.Sinha, Dr.Mahesh and Dr. D.K.Giri. 781
patients mostly from adjacent areas of Hazaribag
and even from states of Bihar and West Bengal were
treated in this camp. |

Workshop of Anganwadi
Workers at Koderma>> |
|
A meeting of Anganwadi Sevika was held at Koderma
Block on the theme “Role of Anganwadi worker on
Birth Registration” on 18th January 2007. The JSS,
Mr. Muzaffar Ahmad was the Chief Guest of the
programme. Mr. Shakil Ahmad, Branch Head-NBJK
Koderma and Mr. Sunil Kumar – Head Accountant,
ICDS were also present in the workshop.

Following recommendations were chalked out in the
workshop:-

Developed a form for the Anganwadi sevika and
distributed among them.

Process
of form fill up discussed with the participants.

Importance of Birth Registration.
-
To give
the detailed birth records along with the
affidavit charge to process at District level.
-
Timely
submission of reports.
-
Activate
role of SHG in spreading awareness and a mean for
holistic development.
-
Mobilize
Anganwadi worker to submit the current birth
record to the Panchayat Sevaks every month.

Submission of detailed
Project Report on Solid Waste Management>> |
|
Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra being empanelled as
consultant to Solid Waste Management by Urban
Development Department of Jharkhand State took the
task of preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) on
Solid Waste Management for Hazaribagh, Chas &
Lohardaga Municipality in the month of
October-Novemeber’06. The preparation of DPR involved
three phases. The first phase focused on field
research and preparation of inception report, the
second phase was ground truthing i.e. to share the
findings with the municipal staffs and preparation of
Preliminary Project Report (PPR) & third phase
included conducting stakeholder workshop and
submission of DPR. The Detailed Project Report has
been submitted in Hazaribagh Municipality on 23rd
January’07 and Chas Municipality on 27th
January’07. |

District Level
Sensitization Workshop>> |
|
In compliance to the Resolution of recently
held meeting of District Advisory Committee (PNDT) in
Gumla, a District Level Sensitization workshop was
organized, which was attended by DC, DDC, SDO, LRDC
cum DSO/DPRO and all BDOs, CDPOs and BSSs on 31st
January 2007.
In this workshop, an action plan has been worked out,
in context of achieving 100 % Birth Registration
across the district and preparing community for
discouraging sex determination leading to female
foeticide. This action plan has a deadline to achieve
the portrayed milestones i.e. March 31, 2007 which was
ordered to be followed strictly. To achieve this
targeted deadline, Kopal Project did commitment to
support the district in desirable IEC activities and
capacity building of personnel in collaboration of
district administration. Further a massive drive would
be launched to target the sa me through line
department in collaboration of Kopal Project across
the district from 15th February to 15th
March 2007. This drive would be reviewed immediately
after its accomplishment. To succeed this campaign,
team of man power to be utilized would be local
welfare personnel, local Community Based Organization,
Block officers and PRI members along with persons from
education stream.

Female Foeticide- A
Heinous Crime >> |
|
Jharkhand posts a declining Female - Male ratio.
Use of modern technology has made pre-birth sex
determination and selection easier. Organization's
Kopal program is a campaign against female foeticide.
Doctors, government officials and local community are
regularly mobilized to curb the vice. Aim is to raise
the level of awareness on evils of female infanticide
and work at policy level for proper implementation of
Pre-conception and Pre-natal diagnostic Techniques Act
of 1994 that prohibits use of ultrasound technology to
determine sex of the foetus. |

Mr. V. Nagrajan paid visit to NBJK with an
objective to provide consultancy on development of
standard accounting system. In this regard he had
initial round of discussions with Mr. Girija Satish,
Executive Director, NBJK and concerned organizational
staff. |

Name of Ms. Jasmine Pavri, Program Officer, Sir
Dorabji Tata Trust, also added to this month's
visitors list. She visited the organization to monitor
the agency funded ongoing project. Both field visit
and in house discussions were carried out in this
process. Detailed discussions were carried to chalk
out future strategies of the project. |
