Workshop on Role of NGOs in
implementing schemes of Welfare department>> |

One day workshop
on the above mentioned issue was jointly organized by
Welfare department of Jharkhand government and Nav Bharat
Jagriti Kendra on May 20, 2006 at premises of Tribal
Welfare and .
Research Center. 120 NGO chiefs from 22 districts
participated in the workshop |

Mr. Ramesh Singh
Munda, honorable welfare minister, lighted up the lamp and
inaugurated the workshop. In his inaugural address he
stressed that Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) should
design tribal developmental initiatives keeping in view
tribal culture and their needs He also focused that that
to bring about tribal development, NGOs should work out
and implement developmental initiatives jointly with
welfare department and try to finish them within the given
timeframe.

government, Mr. B.C. Nigam, Special secretary, Welfare
department, Jharkhand government, Mr. Prakash Oraon,
Director, Tribal Development and Research Center, Mr.
S.K.Sinha, Tribal Welfare Cooperative Society and Mr.
Satish Girija, Secretary, Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra graced
the occasion and saddressed the plenum. |

NBJK represented at the
Development Marketplace 2006, Washington DC>> |

The World
Bank Development Marketplace is a competitive grant
program that identifies and funds innovative,
bottom-up development ideas to deliver results that
have the potential to be expanded or replicated. This
year's Development Marketplace Global competition was
organized at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington
DC on 8-9 May 2006.Out of 2572 proposals from all over
the world, 118 proposals were selected as finalist for
this Global competition. NBJK's proposal titled Swach
-Dhara -An initiative to provide safe drinking water
and sanitation facilities in urban slums of Ranchi
City was one of the 118 finalists for this
competition. Mr. Rajesh Kr Das, Project Manager and
Branch Head, NBJK Ranchi represented NBJK at the
Global Competition. The NBJK booth was visited by over
300 including World Bank officials, academics, funding
agencies and experts in water and sanitation. |

Legal Awareness Workshop>> |
|
A day long
legal awareness workshop was organized at the
Hazaribagh office premises of on May 5, 2006. District
Judge Mr. Amitabh Kumar presided the workshop.
Addressing the occasion Honorable District Judge, Mr.
Brajesh Bahadur Singh, spoke upon several legal
formalities. He insisted that laws are enforced to
protect women and therefore they should come forward
and file petition in Lok Adalat if they face any kind
of atrocities in public place or home.

Mr.
B.K.Pandey, District Judicial Magistrate, Mr. A.
Upadhyaya, District session's judge also graced the
occasion and highlighted various legal aspects
prevailing in the books of law.180 women, block level
officials, anganwadi workers and forty other male
members participated in the workshop and voiced
various queries concerned with legal happenings. |

Nav Bharat
Jagriti Kendra, organized a four day training schedule
teachers employed in organization facilitated schools.
Training highlighted appropriate application of
various learning/teaching aids. It also focused on
aspects of school management and ways to develop
interesting ways of conducting classes. Organizational
staff acted as resource persons in the training
schedule. |
Rahul Kumar
was seriously ill and needed good treatment in a good
hospital. He lacked financial support for this. NBJK
management and staff rose up to the occasion and
assured him good treatment by donating one day's
salary in support of the child. |

Couples break cultural barriers

Dilsan
Ravibar, son of Elizabeth Ravibar of village
Nutannagar abra under Mufassil police station of
Hazaribagh district fell in love with Niva Kumari
daughter of Subal Kisore Thakur of village Tiko Ramdih
of Giridih district. The girl and the boy fled away
after getting married in court. Girls parents
threatened the boys mother. She said that she herself
was not aware where his son fled away. Elizabeth
reported the whole affair in Family Counseling Center.
Staff of Family Counseling Center discussed the matter
with both the parties and finally mitigated the whole
affair. Today the couple are happily leading their
married life. |

Justice at Last >> |
|
Mrs. Awanti Saw, daughter of Hari Saw, of Oriya
village of Hazaribag district registered a case
that she was continually tortured by her in laws.
Awanti devi was called up in Family Counseling
Center and counseled. During this process it was
found that she was regularly tortured by her in
laws for not meeting the dowry demands. Sometimes
her father in law also used to abuse her and beat
her up brutally. Her husband was called up to
provide his views. Her husband blamed his parents
and said this happened whenever he went outside to
work. Finally consensus was drawn and conflict was
resolved by both the parties signed an agreement
in front of witnesses. |
