NBJK runs a
project with the support of Helpage India that
promotes the welfare of the elderly through advocacy
and awareness generation on government schemes. Under
this project we were able to intervene in the life of
Parbatia Devi, a 75 year old woman member of the Vriddha Choupal
in Dhabaiya
village. In an unfortunate incident the house
belonging to Parbatia Devi was burnt to ashes. NBJK
staff decided to
submit an application for assistance to the Block Development Officer
and the Circle Officer in this regard.
Circle Officer ordered an investigation into the
matter. Successful investigation reports were
submitted to CO & BDO. Within 15 days the BDO awarded a cheque of ten thousand to
Parbatia Devi's son and approved the construction of a
new house under the Indira Awas Yojna scheme. Today Parbatia
Devi's house is under construction. |

My
Children are Accessing Better Education>> |
|
 |
My name is Surajmani Devi.
I live with my husband and three children in Lilikoto village
in Khunti, Ranchi district . My village is 15 Km away
from main road amidst dense forest and hilly tract. I
had no livelihood option other than collection of
forest products and selling them
in the market. This however was not adequate to earn
my family a decent livelihood
I remember
two years back when staff from Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra
coming to my village. They called a meeting of women and inspired |
|
us to form a
self-help group. I also became a member and later on
the secretary of the SHG. Through the group Prakhand Mahila Jagriti
Mandal, I took a loan from NBJK and started goat rearing.
Today I have 20 goats and have also fully refunded the
initial loan.
Again I took Rs 10000/- loan from the group and started
a grocery shop. The shop is running well and fetches
me an average sale of Rs. 800 per day.
Before I
joined the self-help group my children were not
going to school. I always used to think "O God…. Will
my children remain illiterate?" But no. Now my elder
son is studying in a boarding school, my daughter and
younger son are studying in primary school. All of
them are performing very well in their respective
school. It all happened soon after my economic
situation became stronger. I also have a identity of
my own in the community as the secretary of the group.
Recently I have also been selected as an Anganwadi
worker in the village.
Now my whole family and me are very happy. Thanks to
Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra and Prakhand Mahila Jagriti
Mandal who changed my life. |
