Career

Since 1971, Four Engineering Graduates who were very sensitive to the cause of deprivation of the poverty stricken masses and highly moved by the condition of poor villagers in Bihar, trapped in the various circle of poverty they decided to shun their career and plunge into nation building and service to the poor. Deeply influenced by the Great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Binoba Bhave, Lohia, Marx, Lenin and motivated by Jai Prakash Narayan, they invited social works from a small halmlet of Dalits in Bhera village.

Appeal

Prakash Birhor, 50 a tribal resident of Chouparan block, Hazaribag was dependent on hunting and MFP collection for his livelihood. But his life was swept by darkness as his ocular power deteriorated over a period of time. He came for a check up at the Eye Hospital being run by NBJK, where he was advised to undergo Cataract surgery. Considering his poor socio-economic condition and his request, the surgery was done with the grant support of individual donors and today his vision has been restored. Swinging from despair to renewed hope, Prakash can now once again go back to forest to pursue his livelihood activities. His shining example further strengthens NBJK's motto of putting the last first.

As many of us may be aware that Cataract is a major cause of blindness and accounts for nearly 80% of all blindness in India. The sad truth is that cataract is curable and the cure is a simple and economical surgery that permanently removes the cataract. Within 15 minutes the vision can be restored by an IOL (Intra Ocular Lenses) surgery which costs only $50. But those people cannot afford even that small amount. You can help them to see again by contributing only $50 per person.
NBJK has set up the two Eye Hospital at Hazaribag and Dumka district of Jharkhand to make eye-care surgeries and services accessible and affordable to the rural masses in the region. The hospital is equipped with modern equipments, qualified medical professionals and trained medical staff. The Hospitals have 4 experienced Eye Surgeons, over 40 paramedic staffs, 50 beds, advance OT and the required modern equipments and operating microscope with a capacity to do 14,000 surgeries every year. It has its own hospital building at Hazaribag and a rented premise at Dumka.
Cataract Surgeries are standard procedures and all related infrastructure facilities like Lens producers, trained staff and camp organization have been standardized and the only stumbling block in the process is funds.
But currently NBJK is operating only 7000 patients per year by the support of some international donors. Thus we are unable to do another 7000 Cataract surgeries per year against our potentiality of 14,000 in lack of support, though there is enormous need for it.

Note: $50 is the total cost for one patient’s IOL Surgery, Medicines during and after surgery, contact lens, Doctors and paramedic payments, OT & equipment maintenance, Travel cost of Patient, Lodging and fooding for two days, follow up checkup and administrative cost of the hospital. We will acknowledge your contribution by giving the Receipt of payment, Name, Address and Photographs of the patient whom we have operated by your kind donation.
