In
the case of disasters, such as flood, fire, and
drought, NBJK provides various forms of relief to
those affected. As a result of the 2007 and 2008
floods in Bihar, a large number of people were
displaced. Separated from their land, many suffered
from acute hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. In
response, NBJK distributed beaten rice and gram.
Packs including a variety of basic essential items
were also assembled and distributed. NBJK also
erected houses to provide shelter for people with
disabilities, widows, and impoverished communities
from areas most affected by the floods. |

NBJK also provides medical relief for those who are
uninsured and unable to afford the necessary
treatment for their condition, such as a broken arm
or cancer. NBJK will set up liaison with a qualified
doctor and negotiate the costs. NBJK will then cover
either a portion or the entire cost of the required
treatment, including medication. If an adequately
trained doctor is not available at the PHCs or the
district hospital, NBJK will arrange for the
transport and accommodation necessary for the
patient to go to Ranchi for treatment. |
