The pace of economic growth in India is picking up. Indeed
by the end of the first quarter 2005-2006, India had
the second largest economic growth rate of 8.1%.
Despite this phenomenal growth, rural poverty in Jharkhand
and Bihar remains grinding and with more than half the
population of both states living below the poverty line.
The purpose
of NBJK's socio-economic programmes is to alleviate poverty
in Jharkhand and Bihar. We firmly believe that the
only way to economic development is not by giving hand-outs
to the poor but by assisting communities create wealth and
secure sustainable livelihoods.
